11 Funniest Moments In Avengers: Infinity War
Spoiler Warning: This article contains huge spoilers for the events of Avengers: Infinity War (duh). Don't read this until you've seen the movie! You have been warned.
Much of the conversation about Avengers: Infinity War has revolved around how big it is, how epic it is, and how dark it is -- especially when it comes to the ending. Indeed the movie is all of these things, but one thing I don't think is getting quite as much attention is just how damn funny Infinity War is. This is a Marvel movie, after all, and while things get real serious when they need to, it's still filled with laugh out loud jokes. I can't stress how deeply entertaining Avengers: Infinity War can be and the movie is jam-packed with great character moments and jokes that help to brighten the darkness.
One of the things the people love most about Avengers movies is seeing different characters interact with each other. The sparks that fly often result in some of the funniest moments of the films and Infinity War is filled with big personalities and egos that are bouncing off of each other for the first time. It makes for an entertaining blockbuster, and Avengers: Infinity War is definitely that. With this in mind, these are 11 of the funniest moments ranked in no particular order.
"It's Like A Pirate And An Angel Had A Baby"Following his encounter with Thanos, Thor is left stranded in space. The Guardians of the Galaxy come to his rescue and it becomes clear that Peter Quill is the only one who isn't impressed with the Asgardian. Drax is especially fascinated with Thor, calling him a "man" compared to Quill being just a "guy." Drax later goes one step further, saying that Thor looks like the child between an angel and a pirate, a surprisingly spot-on comparison. This all only fuels Quill to further flex his alpha dog muscles later on.
"We're All Gonna Die!"You just can't beat a good sidekick. While on a school excursion, Peter Parker sees The Black Order's Q-Ship hovering over Manhattan. Knowing he has to leap into action as Spider-Man, Peter gets the attention of his best friend and Guy-in-the-Chair Ned Leeds and asks him to cause a distraction so that he can slip out. Without missing a beat, Ned screams, "We're all gonna die!" All the kids on the bus crowd to one half to look at the spaceship while Peter makes his exit. On the sad side of things, Ned wasn't entirely off base here...
"Is It Still The Greatest Movie Ever Made?"Peter Quill loves Kevin Bacon and Footloose, his favorite movie. To Quill, Kevin Bacon is worthy of joining the Avengers and he even looks to his idol when constructing battle plans to save the universe. While arguing over their strategy against Thanos, Drax brings up the time the Guardians saved the galaxy with a dance-off. "What, like Footloose?" asks Spider-Man (who was on point with his pop culture references). "Exactly," Quill exclaims, happy to finally have met someone who knows what the hell he is talking about after some 30 years. "Is it still the greatest movie ever made?" "It never was," Peter answers without missing a beat. Wait until Star-Lord learns that there was a remake.
"You're Embarrassing Me In Front Of The Wizards"One of the best pairings in the movie is Iron Man and Doctor Strange, two men of colossal ego who butt heads from the moment they meet. Their relationship is definitely a highlight of the film, but there's a different relationship that was turned on its head: Bruce Banner and the Hulk. In a clever twist, Banner is the one who wants to transform while the Hulk doesn't. The first instance of this is when Banner, Stark, Strange, and Wong confront Ebony Maw and Cull Obsidian. Banner tries to Hulk Out, but the Hulk just ain't coming. Tony, who's trying to one-up Strange, tells Banner that he's embarrassing him. Banner tries to Hulk Out for the rest of the fight, going as far as to slap himself, but Hulk is not interested in smashing for once.
"I Am Steve Rogers"I have never once in my life thought that I'd see a scene where Captain America meets Groot in Wakanda, but this is the time we live in. During the epic third act battle against Thanos' forces, Thor, Rocket, and Groot make an absolutely badass entrance to turn the tide of the battle. Steve and Thor finally reunite, and Thor introduces Steve to his new friend, a tree. "I am Groot," says Groot, while empaling three Outriders on his arm. Steve Rogers, who has absolutely seen it all by this point, just answers back, "I am Steve Rogers." Perfect.
*"You've Noticeably Put On Weight" *Even as the captain, Peter Quill just can't catch a break. After rescuing Thor the Pirate-Angel, Quill tries to downplay his handsomeness, only for the rest of the Guardians to point out that Quill has been putting on weight. "You're one sandwich away from being fat," Rocket bluntly puts it. Quill tries to take the insults in stride and makes plans to invest in a Bowflex, get a few dumbells. Rocket, ever the savage, tells him, "You know you can't eat dumbells, right Quill?"Even after all these years together, the Guardians pull no punches with insults. It's also a nod to how fit Chris Pratt got once he became a movie star.
"I'm Sure I'm Invisible"It should come as no surprise that Drax was on fire during this movie, having some of the best one-liners, but this might have been his best joke. After Quill and Gamora share a tender moment, they realize in classic movie trope that Drax has been standing there watching the whole time. "Dude, how long have you been standing there?" asks Quill. In perfect deadpan, Drax answers "About one hour." You see, Drax has mastered the art of standing really incredibly still to the point where he believes he is invisible. Even as he eats space nuts, he moves so slowly that he just knows it is imperceivable to the naked eye. This moment reeks of James Gunn, who actually did contribute dialogue to the movie. After he says he is "sure" he's invisible, Mantis pops in and ruins it by saying, 'Hi Drax.'
"Blast That Nutsack Of A Chin"This joke actually comes at a really serious moment in the movie, but I still couldn't help but chuckle. Arriving on a seemingly normal looking Knowhere, the Guardians confront Thanos, only to learn he's already acquired the Reality Stone and has decimate the place. Thanos clutches Gamora and Quill leaps out to save her. Pointing his blaster, Quill tells Thanos to let her go or else he'll blast Thanos' nutsack of a chin right off his face. This is only made funnier by the fact that Quill also calls Thanos Grimace, the purple McDonald's nightmare.
"We're Here To Take Ass And Kick Names"What do Mantis and Drax do exactly? It's kind of a good question and one that Tony Stark and Peter Paker can't figure out an answer to. While making a plan to stop Thanos on Titan, a yawn from a bored Drax forces Peter to ask what he and Mantis even do. The answer is actually pretty simple. "To take ass and kick names," Mantis replies, with zero disagreements from Drax. Tony Stark can only stare in silence at the two of them and after a hilarious pause moves on to figuring out how to stop purple titan from becoming a god.
"Quill, Are You Making Your Voice Deeper?"Peter Quill has never really had to prove his alpha male status with the other Guardians, so when someone like Thor comes along, he tends to begin overcompensating. Thor doesn't really help matters by barking orders and taking the Guardians' food, but they all still seem to love him anyway. In an attempt to gain some amount of authority back, Quill begins to talk in a deeper Thor-esque voice, which the Guardians immediately notice and call him out for. Thor isn't exactly pleased with the impression, but he ends up leaving with a pod, tree, and raccoon all the same.
The Entire Mexican Standoff SequenceWorlds collided on Titan as Iron Man, Doctor Strange, and Spider-Man met Star-Lord, Drax, and Mantis. Each team thinks the other is working for Thanos and a classic superhero misunderstanding leads to an entertaining fight that ends with Star-Lord and Iron Man holding Spider-Man and Drax at laser point, respectively. Everything about the following exchange is great. Drax saying that he can take Iron Man's blast straight to the face and everyone telling him he can't; Doctor Strange asking what master Quill serves ("What am I supposed to say? Jesus?"); Stark calling Quill a dipshit; and of course, Drax's one-upmanship of, "I'll do you one better, why is Gamora?" Everything about this is just so damn funny.
