Avengers: Endgame Is Finally Slowing Down At The Box Office
Avengers: Endgame hit theaters on April 26th, a day that is currently living in infamy for Marvel fans. The Russo Brothers made the seemingly impossible happen, with bold narrative choices that wrapped up a 22 movie narrative, and brought every major together for one epic battle sequence. The movie has also made buckets of money for Disney and Marvel Studios, breaking all sorts of box office records in the process.
The box office performance of Endgame was so strong that it's currently sitting at the #2 biggest movie of all time. It still hasn't topped Avatar yet, but the blockbuster had global appeal and definitely rewatch-ability. Although it's finally slowing down, as Monday June 3rd marked the first date Endgame failed to make $1 million since its debuted. I guess all things must come to an end.
On June 3rd, Avengers: Endgame brought in $869,816 from its showings (via Box Office Mojo) which is noticeably lower that the millions the massive blockbuster has been able to consistently bring in. Every installment in Phase Three has been a box office success, but Endgame had made a whopping $816,596,091 at the time of writing this story. And since it's been in theaters for well over a month, it makes sense that fewer moviegoers would be running to theaters.
Of course, $869,816 is still no short sum, and one that plenty of other struggling movies would be thrilled to take on a Monday night. While Disney's Aladdin has been raking in the dough thanks to nostalgia and an iconic property, other releases like Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Brightburn have been struggling to make the same type of profit.
The reason for the drop off is likely just time, as Marvel fans and casual moviegoers alike have had weeks upon weeks to see all Avengers: Endgame had to offer. And now that the watches have also happened, there are simply fewer butts in seats.

With Avengers: Endgame beginning to take in less than $1 Million a day, it should be interesting to see if it ends up meeting Avatar's impressive $2,788,000 billion haul. Endgame had a decade of filmmaking behind it, and is one of the biggest movies of all time. Endgame is currently sitting on $2,715,000 so it's not all that far away. But now that the blockbuster's losing steam, it might not end up taking the #1 spot.
This race to the #1 spot just makes Avatar's performance back in 2009 all the more impressive. Nobody had fallen in love with the world of Pandora, but the cutting edge visual affects work and James Cameron's name helped it become a behemoth hit. Let's just see if the long gestating sequels will be able to do the same.
