One Inconsistency Between Guardians Of The Galaxy And Infinity War

Spoilers ahead for Avengers: Infinity War.The Marvel Cinematic Universe has changed the world of filmmaking forever. Shared universes have become commonplace, with audiences accustomed to serialized, detail-oriented storytelling. But considering the MCU has been alive for ten years, there's bound to be a few continuity errors. Fans recently noted an inconsistency with Guardians of the Galaxy and Infinity War, specifically related to Gamora's backstory and home planet. Because although Thanos reveals massacring half the population of Zen-Whoberi ultimately saved the planet, her mugshot in Guardians claims she was its sole survivor. Check it out below.

As the above image reveals, Guardians of the Galaxy actually sets quite a different background for Gamora. While still the kidnapped and deadly adoptive daughter of Thanos, Zen-Whoberi's denizens were completely extinct according to James Gunn's original blockbuster. But The Russo Brothers had their hands full crafting Infinity War and Avengers 4, and they needed to make some changes to give the story an emotional punch.

James Gunn had a ton of set up to do with Guardians of the Galaxy, introducing each member of the motley crew and eventually uniting the group against a common enemy. The Guardians first clash on Xandar, before being sent to an intergalactic prison. There, the characters' backstories were quickly exposed, along with Star-Lord's middle finger.

A renewed focus on Gamora's home planet came with Avengers: Infinity War, as her history with Thanos was expanded. Gamora has known about Thanos' quest to destroy half the galaxy since she was a young girl, and Thanos invaded Zen-Whoberi. The Mad Titan wiped out half of the population, including killing Gamora's parents in front of her. Thanos maintained the planet was now thriving because of it, revealing there are still plenty of inhabitants on Gamora's home planet.

While the hardcore fans might take umbrage with this change in the canon, it's not earth shattering in the grand scheme of things. The MCU has done great with keeping its story streamlined, but The Russo Brothers had a lot on their plate for their two Avengers movies. In addition to juggling the myriad characters and all-star cast, the brothers made special note to make Infinity War an emotional journey. Thanos' conquering of Zen-Whoberi helped flesh out his personal relationship with his daughter, as well as his logic in attempting to destroy half the galaxy.

With the news that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will definitely be set after the events of Infinity War, it's unclear how Gamora and the Guardians might be brought back to life. We'll just have to wait and see when Avengers 4 arrives in theaters on May 3rd, 2019. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.

Fox Made Ryan Reynolds Cut A Disney Joke From Deadpool 2

There is arguably no hero with more self-awareness than Wade Wilson. Ryan Reynolds' smartass anti-hero cracks jokes about anything and anyone, and it looks like the same sense of humor that made the original Deadpool a hit back in 2016 will once again help sell Deadpool 2 to audiences. However, evidently not every joke made it into Deadpool 2's final cut, as one specific Disney gag was taken out at the behest of the folks at 20th Century Fox. Reynolds explained:

This is a sore spot for me because there's a joke in the movie that is not in the movie now because --- I'm probably not even allowed to say this --- Fox made me take it out. It had more to do with Disney, and they made me take it out. As I look back at it, I think maybe that was a wise decision.

So there you have it. We don't exactly know what the joke would've been, but it sounds like the folks at Fox may have flexed some muscle to get a Disney-themed joke dropped from Deadpool 2. Ryan Reynolds wouldn't go into much detail about the shift (in fact, he thinks he could get in trouble for just admitting that it happened), but it doesn't seem unreasonable to assume that it might have something to do with the landmark business deal that saw Disney purchase 21st Century Fox for $52 billion last year. The deal hasn't officially gone through yet, which means Disney doesn't have official control over the Deadpool franchise, but the wheels have started turning.

Obviously we will have to wait and see what jokes ended up staying in the final cut of the movie. The most recent trailer for Deadpool 2 poked fun at Avengers: Infinity War by referring to Josh Brolin's Cable as "Thanos," so the cat is kind of out of the bag on that one. It's unclear if that gag was merely meant to be used in the trailer or if it's actually part of the final cut of the movie, but it is apparent that the step closer to the Disney brand may have had (at least some) influence over the final Deadpool 2 product. That said, Ryan Reynolds does seem to stand by the decision that it was the better move in the long run anyway.

Regardless of the fact that Ryan Reynolds and the folks behind Deadpool 2 had to cut a notable Disney joke, that doesn't change the act that there are still some minor jabs at the Mouse House in the film. Specifically, the actor made sure to note in his interview with EW that there is a recurring joke about Frozen somewhere in the R-rated sequel. We don't know the exact nature of the gag, but at least now we're aware we should keep an eye out for some type of reference to the 2013 classic.

With all of that in mind, Deadpool 2 will debut on the big screen later this month on May 18. Five years ago, we were gearing up for a Spider-man sequel for Andrew Garfields iteration. These days, we are here readily awaiting Tom Hollands second take at the character in this summers Spider-Man: Far From Home. Crazy how history repeats itself, isnt it?

(Sadly for some) Andrew Garfields time as the friendly webslinger came to an end when the character was negotiated into the hands of Disneys MCU and the studio had a new direction planned for Spider-Man (...such as turning the character to dust?) Since moving on from the role, Garfield has been taking on various dramatic roles, such as in Martin Scorseses Silence and his Oscar-nominated role in Hacksaw Ridge. His famed Spider-Man role is still very much a part of him, though he recently admitted some satisfaction about waving goodbye to the superhero. Heres what he said, and be forewarned there is an f-bomb...

That was the big learning experience of my creative life, and I have so many feelings about it and I'm still a huge fan of the character. But, it was nice to be able to fling it symbolically across the room for a second. That felt really fucking good, I have to admit!

During a London screening for his upcoming movie Under the Silver Lake, Spider-Man came up in the conversation, since there is apparently a reference to the character in the upcoming film. Andrew Garfield told the audience the Easter egg is coincidental before opening up about the complicated relationship he has with his Spider-Man tenure, expressing both gratitude and the strange satisfaction that came with leaving the role.
